What kind of exchange is NASDAQ?
It is a market operated by electronic trading. It does not mean it is only for tech stocks or the same as NASDAQ 100.

Remember this first
First, 3 things to remember
- 1Nasdaq is an exchange that processes trades electronically.
- 2A market maker is a participant that provides bid and ask prices.
- 3Being listed on Nasdaq and being included in the Nasdaq 100 are different.
Trading is conducted via computer systems.
Nasdaq is known as an electronic stock exchange. You do not need to imagine people gathered in one place shouting to trade.
A variety of companies are listed. Even though tech companies are well-known, it does not mean that every Nasdaq company is a tech stock or a large company.
Some firms continuously provide bid and ask prices.
A market maker is a trading participant that provides bid and ask prices for stocks. Orders from retail investors are also processed through an electronic system.
The presence of a market maker does not mean you can always trade the desired quantity at the desired price. Actual quotes and trading volume vary depending on the stock and the time.
Check the company details following the exchange name.
If you are looking at a Nasdaq stock for the first time, check what the company does to earn money before looking at its ticker. The number of shares, cash, and disclosures vary by company.
The Nasdaq 100 is an index that calculates the movement of companies selected based on separate criteria. It does not directly reflect the performance of all Nasdaq-listed stocks.
You should not make such assumptions
“Are all companies on Nasdaq famous tech giants?”
There are companies of various industries and sizes. You must check information for each individual company.
Check what you have read.
- Did you distinguish between the exchange and the index?
- Have you read about the company's actual business?
- Have you checked the quotes and trading volume separately?
