Divergence—are the price and the indicator moving differently?
This term is used when the stock price and technical indicators show different trends.

Remember this first
First, 3 things to remember
- 1Divergence refers to the difference in movement between price and an indicator.
- 2You must compare the highs and lows from the same time period.
- 3Even if a discrepancy occurs, there is no guarantee that the direction will change soon.
Compare the same points on both charts.
Suppose the stock price is lower than before, but the RSI is higher. RSI is a figure that compares recent changes in gains and losses. This discrepancy can be called divergence.
Arbitrarily selecting and comparing lows from different dates changes the meaning. Indicate which points were compared within the same period and under the same settings.
"Different" and "about to rebound" are not the same thing.
Even if an indicator improves slightly, the stock price can continue to fall. During strong uptrends or downtrends, the gap between price and indicators can persist for a long time.
Do not just look at indicators; check if the price has actually stopped falling and if it has recovered previous price ranges. If you do not see it yet, simply record that it is not visible.
Multiple indicators do not necessarily constitute separate pieces of evidence.
Indicators like RSI and MACD can calculate the same price data in different ways. Having multiple indicators say the same thing does not mean you have multiple independent pieces of evidence.
Start by accurately explaining one discrepancy and practicing by checking actual prices and news. The goal is not to have many complex indicators turned on.
You should not make such assumptions
“Just because it is a bullish divergence does not mean there will be no new lows.”
It is simply the fact that the price and the indicator moved differently. It does not mean the stock price will immediately move in the opposite direction.
Check what you have read.
- Did you compare points from the same time frame?
- Has the price actually changed direction?
- Did you count similar indicators as separate pieces of evidence?
