What is the US small-cap scanner?

The WAPE scanner is a tool that aggregates and displays US small-cap stocks that meet observation criteria for price fluctuations, trading volume, and trading value. It goes beyond simply listing stocks that have risen significantly by providing the current trend status and history of changes.

You can first read the stock name, ticker, market cap, current price, and short-term fluctuation rate, and then compare trading value, trading volume acceleration, state intensity, and data reliability. Once you select a stock of interest, you can proceed to check charts and related materials. The fact that a stock appears on the scanner does not in itself constitute a buy or sell signal.

If you are new, follow this order

  1. Go to the scanner menu on the home screen or the scanner page. Check the latest movements by stock on the default 'Alert View' screen, or switch to 'Real-time View' to compare current lists.

  2. After logging in, select the data reliability and market capitalization cap. Initially, set the reliability to 'All' and choose the trends you wish to monitor from the notification types, such as rise, fall, breakout, or reversal.

  3. Initially, up to 5 latest stocks are displayed. You can view more by selecting 'View previous records,' and by expanding the records for each stock, you can check notifications for that specific stock in reverse chronological order.

  4. Tapping a stock opens a detailed screen summarizing its current trend and the basis for detection. Review changes since the initial detection and recent trading volume, then proceed to check the stock chart and related materials.

  5. Check the original text and release time of news and disclosures, as well as whether trading is suspended. Compare whether the current figures and the relevant materials describe the situation at the same point in time.

Narrowing the range with notifications and filters

Alert View groups records for the same stock and displays them starting with the most recent alert. Real-time View is a screen for comparing the figures of stocks currently being observed. If there are few results, try broadening your filters one by one.

Market cap
Select a cap from 100,000,000, 200,000,000, 300,000,000, 400,000,000, or 500,000,000 USD or less. The default is 200,000,000 USD or less. Stocks for which market capitalization cannot be verified or that do not meet valid criteria may be excluded from the list until verification is complete.
Alert type
Select from All, Rise, Fall, Breakout, Retracement, Recovery, Weakening Trend, and Observation End. Stocks of that type are displayed based on the latest notification for each stock.
Data confidence
You can view them categorized as All, 70 or higher, and less than 70. This score represents the reliability of the data used by the screen, not the investment value or probability of price increase for the stock.
Earlier activity
Stocks that receive new notifications move to the top. Records within a stock are also in reverse chronological order, and the time displayed on the records is in Korea Standard Time. The reference time for recently received records and the current price may differ.
USD/KRW denominated
Tapping the currency button at the top toggles the display between USD and KRW. The KRW display is a reference amount based on the exchange rate, while the original base currency for market cap criteria is USD.

Six criteria for reading numbers

Current Price & Short-term Fluctuation
Distinguish between the current displayed price and changes in 1-minute or 3-minute intervals. Check the reference period to avoid interpreting short-term fluctuations as the total daily return or future direction.
1-minute traded value
This indicator tracks the total value traded during the most recently completed 1-minute interval. It is distinct from trading volume, which measures the number of shares traded, and is useful for comparing trading activity across stocks with different price levels.
Volume acceleration
This shows how much more active recent trading volume is compared to the reference period. It is based on actual completed 1-minute bars from the same session immediately preceding detection, so it provides information distinct from the absolute volume size.
Intensity by status
The intensity of conditions related to volatility, trend maintenance, and weakening is displayed separately. Rather than relying on a single score, evaluate the current status alongside changes in the chart.
Distance from AVWAP
This item compares the distance between the current price and the volume-weighted average price calculated from the reference point. It is a price benchmark that reflects trading volume and does not imply a target price that must be reached.
Confidence level and reception time
Data reliability and the last update time should be checked before interpreting any figures. If the connection is lost or the data is outdated, do not assume the values on the screen reflect current market conditions.

Understanding Status Names and Chart History

The list and charts use the same status names. The status history on the chart helps you review when changes identified by the scanner occurred. Not all stocks go through the sequence below in order.

Change Detection
This is the interval where price movement, volume, and trading value met the scanner's detection criteria.
Uptrend
A period where both price increases and growth in trading value were observed after detection.
Pullback after a rise
A period where the price has retraced after an increase; observe changes in volume and price.
Observing recovery trends
An interval where price recovery or a breakout was observed following a pullback.
Signs of Weakening
A period where some conditions related to weakening trends, such as upper shadows or increased trading volume, were observed.
Weakening trend
An interval where both a weakening price structure and volume-related conditions were observed.
Deviation from Baseline
A period where conditions for breaking away from key price baselines tracked by the scanner were observed.
Observation ended
A period where intensive observation of the current trend has concluded.

Connecting Charts to News and Disclosures

If the scanner detects movement, examine the timing and duration on the chart. You can read the records more specifically by checking whether only the price changed rapidly, whether trading volume also increased, and whether the trend continued after the status change.

Next, compare the release times of stock news and disclosures. Since AI summaries, analysis, and translations are auxiliary tools for quick comprehension, verify critical details such as numbers, contract terms, and the issuing entity in the linked original source. Simultaneous news cannot be definitively cited as the cause of price changes.

On the trading suspension screen, you can check the reason for the suspension and information regarding resumption. In Insights, you can examine daily market trends and compare the movements of individual stocks with the overall market.

Checking empty lists and data delays

If no stocks appear in the scanner, it is not necessarily an error. The market may be closed, or there may be no stocks that meet the current filters and observation conditions. Check the market status first, then review the status/reliability filters and the market cap limit.

External market data may be delayed, missing, or contain errors, and some information includes estimates. Since quotes, market capitalization, and news may be updated at different times, you should check the reference time for each. The absence of a sharp decline warning or a risk stock indicator does not mean there is no risk.

WAPE is a service for querying and analyzing market information. It does not transmit actual securities orders, and scanner statuses or AI explanations are not information that guarantees profit or recommends trading specific stocks.

Free access and login scope

All features of WAPE are free, and we do not charge subscription fees. The scanner, Fear & Greed Index, and public news, insights, and trading suspension screens can be viewed without logging in. A login prompt will appear when adjusting scanner filters or opening stock details.

If you want to view charts, the scanner, and news on one screen, you can use the 'Comprehensive Dashboard' on the home screen. The Comprehensive Dashboard provides the table and sorting functions of the existing PC scanner.

Watchlists and personal paper trading orders/records are managed based on your logged-in account. To practice the trends observed in the scanner using virtual funds, please check the paper trading guide.

FAQ

Are all stocks appearing on the scanner rising?

No. It also includes states such as 'Fall Detected,' 'Trend Weakening,' or 'Baseline Deviation.' Check the current status and direction of movement first. Being included in the scanner does not predict future price direction.

Why are some searched stocks not in the scanner?

This is because the criteria for stock search and the scanner differ. Stocks may be excluded from the scanner list based on market capitalization, product classification, data status, current filters, and observation conditions.

Is a reliability of 70 or higher considered a better stock?

Reliability is an indicator regarding the data. It is not a criterion for evaluating corporate value, financial stability, growth potential, or trading success rates.

Does the same movement continue after the market closes?

The displayed status reflects information at the time of observation. It does not mean the same trend will continue after the market closes or if the connection status changes, so please check the observation session and the last update time.

Is a paid subscription required for chart and news analysis?

It is not necessary. All features of WAPE are free. The login request is a procedure to use features that require an account and is not a subscription payment step.
