Are clinical success and FDA approval the same thing?
The stage of testing drugs on humans and the stage of receiving sales approval are different.

Remember this first
First, 3 things to remember
- 1A clinical trial is the process of studying the effects and risks of a drug on human subjects.
- 2Positive research results do not automatically mean marketing approval.
- 3Read what was checked, on how many people, and for how long.
Testing a drug and receiving approval are different things.
A clinical trial is a study that tests the efficacy and safety of a drug on humans. The FDA is the agency that reviews pharmaceuticals in the United States. Starting a clinical trial and receiving FDA marketing approval are different events.
Phase 1, Phase 2, and Phase 3 represent research stages. A higher number does not guarantee final success. Read patient recruitment, interim results, final results, approval applications, and approval completion separately.
Check what the trial was intended to verify.
Evaluation metrics are the criteria used to determine what improved in the trial. Primary endpoints are the core criteria set at the beginning, while secondary endpoints are additional criteria. Check which criteria were met.
If it says "75% has improved," check how many out of how many people. 3 out of 4 and 300 out of 400 may have the same ratio, but the research conditions could be different. Also, check if they were compared to a group that did not receive other treatments or drugs.
It is also important to see how long the improved effects lasted.
Check whether the improvement was temporary or sustained, and look for side effects or dropouts. Do not interpret the entire study as a success by picking only one favorable number.
Statistical figures cannot be converted into probabilities of approval or stock price increases. Leave information not present in the announcement as unknown, and distinguish between company announcements, research materials, and official review results.
You should not make such assumptions
“Because the clinical trial results were positive, FDA approval is complete.”
Trial results and marketing authorization are different stages. You must read what has been officially completed.
Check what you have read.
- Did you check whether it is the start of a trial, a result, or an approval?
- How many people were tested, and what was being verified?
- Did you also look at side effects and the duration of the effect?
